Neapco Notables | Magdalena Kujawiak, Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Protection Manager, EH&S Supervisor
Fostering an open, welcoming and inclusive work environment has always been a top priority at Neapco. Our team members around the globe help us make that possible by mentoring our young professionals, participating in company initiatives and more.
In this edition of Neapco Notables, we highlight Magdalena Kujawiak, Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Protection Manager and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Supervisor at our Poland facility. In her role, Magdalena ensures our operations remain sustainable and our team members stay safe and healthy at work.
Magdalena filled us in on the day-to-day of her role at Neapco, her favorite parts about working here and how she spends her free time.
Tell us how you got started at Neapco.
I graduated from the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland with a degree in Occupational Health, Safety Management and Environmental Management. After graduating, I wanted to return back home to Praszka and was able to get an internship at Neapco in 2008 in the EH&S department. After my one-year internship concluded, I knew I wanted to stay at Neapco full-time. With support from management, I was brought on as an EH&S Inspector and have been able to grow and expand my knowledge throughout my career at Neapco, working my way up to a manager role.
What does your day-to-day look like?
In my current role, I work with cross-functional departments and managers to ensure our team members feel safe while at work. I am currently working as a Management System Supervisor for ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 — which are systems that focus on continuous improvement in health, safety, environmental and electrical management. These systems are crucial in proactively improving our safety culture and reducing our negative impacts on the environment.
Are you involved in any initiatives or programs at Neapco?
I believe it’s really important that we prioritize our planet and keep ourselves educated on how our operations impact the environment. I am developing training courses and workshops to help our team members become more aware of our sustainability efforts, such as reducing wastewater, energy consumption and more.
I also am proud to be a member of the Praszka Global Belonging Council. I help organize EH&S activities for our teams and their families — such as planting trees, cleaning up litter from nearby forests, organizing friendly competitions, and prizes for celebratory events like World Health and Safety Week, Car Free Day and Step 2 Health.
What do you enjoy most about working at Neapco?
The best part about my job is being able to work with a wide range of people every day. I get to collaborate with many different groups and lead teams that are focused on things I am passionate about, like the Sustainability and Accident Team. I also am an internal trainer so I get to conduct team training sessions focused on ways we can improve safety in the workplace and care for our planet and community.
Being involved with many different teams and initiatives at work has allowed me to grow and expand my creative problem-solving skills. There is no problem or task that is unsolvable with the help of those around me. We work hard to continually improve operations and seek out solutions when problems come our way — and thanks to those around me, I am able to effectively do that and learn new things every day.
How do you spend your time outside of work?
I spend most of my free time with family and friends. We love to cycle and travel whenever we get the chance. I particularly love visiting the mountains or anywhere by the water — it’s always very relaxing and exciting to explore new places.
