Job Description:


  • Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials, in process, or finished products to determine conformance to the engineering specifications regarding mechanical properties, composition, microstructure, magnetic and electrical properties, resistance to abrasion, and corrosion resistance. 
  • Perform routine testing or failure analysis on customer returned parts or on internal plant processing issues and generate test reports. 
  • Plan and implement laboratory procedures for materials selection and fabrication processes that meet cost, product specifications, and performance standards. 
  • Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to process and product design objectives to ensure profitability at the plant level. 
  • Accountable for keeping the plant metallurgical laboratory and gage and layout departments in conformance to ISO standard requirements with respect to lab scope, work instructions, and equipment calibration, and plant employee training. 
  • Investigate ways to reduce processing costs with an emphasis on reducing internal scrap. 
  • Supervise union CMM operators and help with any road blocks that are hindering their duties. 
  • Conduct training sessions on new material selections, applications, manufacturing methods, and testing procedures for Neapco’s salary/union employees and suppliers/customers if needed. 
  • Responsible for the procurement of lab equipment and consumables for operation of the laboratory. 
  • Supervise the work of technologists, technicians, and co-op students in the metallurgical lab. 









Preferred Skills:


  • Excellent interpersonal, computer, and project management skills. 
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and react quickly to critical issues. 
  • Experience in the automotive manufacturing industry preferred. 
  • A minimum of Bachelors degree in material science or metallurgical engineering. 
  • 5 years or more of relevant experience.
